overview Frank Treiber, PhD is a Professor and the MUSC Endowed Chair for the South Carolina Centers of Economic Excellence (CoEE) Technology Center to Advance Healthful Lifestyles. Dr. Treiber received his BS in Psychology degree from Tennessee Technological University and his MS and PhD degrees in Developmental Psychology from the University of Georgia. He completed a Post Doctoral Clinical Training Fellowship also at the University of Georgia and an APA approved Psychology Internship at the Medical University of South Carolina and the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston. Dr. Treiber began his academic career at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) in Augusta, Georgia in 1984 as a clinical child psychologist. From there he was involved in developing and directing MCG’s Georgia Prevention Institute (GPI) that was created to conduct high-quality research addressing health disparities in chronic diseases impacting Georgians, especially cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes related to ethnic background and/or geographical region. In 2005, MCG named Dr. Treiber Vice President for Research and Development. Dr. Treiber has had continuous extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health as a principal investigator since 1988. He has published more than 170 peer reviewed research articles and more than 200 abstracts. His research accomplishments have been recognized by the scientific community by his election to membership in the Society of Pediatric Research, American Pediatric Society, and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine. He also attained fellow status in the Society of Behavioral Medicine and AHA Council for High Blood Pressure Research. He is currently an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine. He has served on numerous NIH review sections and working groups, and has served on the external advisory board of several NIH funded research programs.
