Dr. Lavin’s research interest is focused on understanding the cellular mechanisms that underlie attention and working memory. In particular, her lab investigates how some types of neurotransmitters regulate the electrophysiological properties of neurons located in the frontal cortex. It is thought that dopamine and noradrenaline, by modulating cortical networks, play a role on focusing attention and working memory. Areas of research interest include synaptic electrophysiology, network activity and cortical circuitry. Techniques being employed include in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and slice cell culture.
