overview Lynn Schnapp, M.D., is the George R. And Elaine Love Professor and Chair of Medicine, at School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is the former Division Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy, and Sleep Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was previously Professor of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at University of Washington in Seattle, where she directed the Respiratory, Cell, and Molecular Biology track of the Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine Fellowship. Prior to that, she held faculty positions at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY, and at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Schnapp leads an active research program focused on lung injury and repair. Her research began in the field of integrin biology and has evolved to examine matrix remodeling in the normal and injured lung. She continues her research into the role of lung pericytes and other stromal cells in the pathogenesis of fibrosis. She also plans to continue her analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from patients with different lung diseases using cutting-edge methodologies in proteomics to identify new biomarkers and causative pathways. Dr. Schnapp also focuses on enhancing career development and mentoring opportunities.. At the University of Washington, she was part of the leadership team of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program, developing programs to enhance team science, translational research, and career development opportunities throughout the region. Dr. Schnapp has held several leadership positions within the American Thoracic Society (ATS). She recently completed her term as President of the ATS. Prior roles include Chair of the Respiratory Cell, Molecular Biology Assembly and as member of the Board of Directors of ATS. Dr. Schnapp received her undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she also completed her medical residency. She completed a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
