    Dr. Gayenell S. Magwood is professor in the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her research interests include health disparities, community-based interventions related to multiple risk reduction, particularly cardiometabolic risk, chronic disease prevention and management.

    Dr. Magwood combines her passion and advocacy with her science to inform best practices for building, enhancing, and sustaining partnerships with communities; on major grants contributing expertise in the intersection of community and health systems. She has served as PI and Co-Investigator on numerous federally funded and other extramurally funded research contributing expertise for development and implementation of community engaged interventions and multi-level community-based participatory research with underserved communities. Her expertise and advocacy contributions reflect the breadth of her impact and influence in nursing science, team and community science and collaboration.

    She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a Fellow of the American Heart Association.
