Dr. Sonne's primary research focus has been the pharmacotherapy of addiction and co-occurring disorders. She has served as the Principal Investigator of a number of federally funded trials for the treatment of substance use disorders, including trials for opioid dependence, stimulant dependence, and cigarette smoking. She has also received grant support from pharmaceutical companies to study the treatment of PTSD, PTSD and substance abuse, and comorbid alcohol dependence and anxiety or depression. Dr. Sonne serves as the national project director for a multi-site trial on the treatment of marijuana dependence. She is currently Chair of one of the Institutional Review Boards at MUSC and is also the Associate Director of the Regulatory Knowledge and Support Core of MUSC's South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
